It is one of the five Arama Kshetras dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is on the banks of River Krishna and it is a very spacious, elevated temple with eye catching architectural stone carvings. It is under the control of Government of Andhara Pradesh and it is a place of archeological importance. The other four arama kshetras are 1) Ksheeraramam in Palakol of West Godavari District; 2) Bheemaramam in Bhimavaram Gunupudi situated in West Godavari District; 3) Draaksharamam otherwise named as Dakshina Kaasi situated in East Godavari District; 4) Somaramam situated in Samalkot of East Godavari District. Probably I will not be able to describe the historical importance or origin of the temple; besides the posture and length of the Linga - the main shine in each temple. One has to visit and truly take the blessings of the Lord
Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, is named after its historic site. As mentioned there are many places to visit in Amaravathi. The town is a center of pilgrimage to both Hindus and Buddhists and has historical, spiritual and mythological significance.
